The Project: (2024-2025)

This project was designed with a specific goal in mind for graduate-level research: to test affordance as a tried and true level design technique in a semi-linear level. Priority was given to this goal over other level design/gameplay goals.

The uploaded map represents the launch milestone of the research environment. I may occasionally return to add more aesthetics passes and bug fix patches at a later time for player benefit only, but will likely not adjust the combat or gameplay. For now though, the project is considered to be in its final, complete state.

In Development: (2020 - TBA) This passion project is being made by a small team of people who hold full time jobs outside of game development. They meet once a week to hash out bugs and make updates to the game. Levels and features are built in the free time people have over the course a the week.

Process: Solar Purge began operating under waterfall methods; early access was launched on Steam in July 2020. I joined the team in June 2026 to assist in completing the project. My goals include bringing each level to a standard level of completion and polish under more of the spiral/agile methodology, enhancing game balance and player motivation using beat sheets, intensity graphs, and skill progression charts, and designing new gameplay spaces as necessary.
